David has a traffic accident!

NB: Investigative press reporting is not what it used to be: David is 53 not 54!

On 21st June, David was on his bicycle at “Hubertus”, a traffic junction not far from home, when the lorry driver to his left side decided to turn right without seeing the cyclist on his right-hand side (and without being in the “turn right” lane)! Considering that turning right from a “straight on and turn left” lane is to say the least unexpected, David screamed blue murder, which probably saved his life. That and jumping as fast as possible off the bike! The bike is a write-off. Unfortunately, the lorry managed to drive over David’s left foot breaking the bones and leaving an open wound. David 2.0: grateful to be alive, but with a long period of surgery and recuperation ahead of him…

Nearly two months later, David is on the road to recovery, crutches and all! He has had six operations under general anasthetic, has two 35 cm pieces of titanium in his lower left leg, and has spent 36 days in hospital, four in rehab and the rest at home. Without the support of great medical staff, friends, family and dear wife Jacqueline, it would have been impossible to stay positive. The wound is now closed and healing after plastic surgery, and now the weeks and weeks of physiotherapy and out-patient wound care start…
