Jacqueline and David visit Milan and Venice

Since both boys were away, it seemed only right that Jacqueline and David should travel too. Jacqueline had never visited Venice, so we decided to go there. There is no night train to Venice any more unfortunately, so we broke the journey to Venice in Milan and spent a morning there, looking at the Cathedral and environs. After that, we had three days in Venice, with reasonable weather. The main reaction: so many tourists, so many glass shops, so many mask shops… In the past, St Mark’s Square had too many pigeons – David and the boys fed them tens years earlier! – now there are too many tourists and hardly any pigeons. We also didn’t see any live cats. Venice has become a melancholy museum with beautiful old buildings and views, unfortunately…
