For about a month now, our family has changed its shopping habits as an attempt radically to reduce the amount of rubbish we create. We are buying much of our food and other goods either loose or in much larger quantities. For example, washing up liquid is now dispensed by a soap dispenser rather than using the smallish plastic bottle that we used to buy in the supermarket. We can not only buy the same product in a 20 l container, but we also use much less of it!
The other key change is buying fresh goods at the market and using our own home grown lettuce, vegetables and fruit, grown on balconies and the roof terrace, masterminded (watered every day in this recent hot weather) by Seán and Jacqueline.
